Alexis Izar Gordon

Alexis Izar Gordon is a 13-year-old boy soprano based in Vienna and a member of the Vienna State Opera’s Opera School since the age of eight. He has appeared in Carmen, Pique Dame, Otello, La Bohème, Die Frau ohne Schatten and Wozzeck, and performs as the First Boy (Erster Knabe) in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. He has performed under Franz Welser-Möst and Christian Thielemann, and with musicians including Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Pekka Kuusisto. At ten, Alexis made his Stockholm debut as soprano soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. At twelve, he sang Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms in four performances with the Vienna Philharmonic and Arnold Schoenberg Choir. Works have been written for him by Ukrainian composer Alexander Rodin and Bulgarian composer Borislava Taneva. Highlights of 2026/27 include Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the Skopje Philharmonic and a chamber programme with the Jerusalem Quartet. Passionate about mathematics and science, he placed fourth in Austria in a 2026 TU Wien mathematics competition and will attend the Nobel Prize Ceremony in Stockholm in December 2026.
